Stablecoin Risk (USDC)

This section highlights the risks associated with OLTA’s reliance on USDC as its core transactional and collateral layer.

Context

OLTA is a USDC-native protocol. All fund deposits, redemptions, and NAV calculations are conducted in USDC to ensure pricing stability, regulatory alignment, and seamless interoperability with institutional systems.

Key Risk Factors

1. Centralization of Issuer (Circle)

USDC is issued by a single regulated entity (Circle), which introduces counterparty risk in the event of:

  • Regulatory freeze or shutdown

  • Loss of banking access

  • Technical failures or mismanagement

2. Blacklistability of Wallets

Circle has the authority to freeze or blacklist specific wallets. This could interfere with fund operations in the event of:

  • Mislabeling

  • Regulatory investigations

  • Smart contract interaction with blacklisted addresses

3. Depeg Events

Although rare, temporary depegs have occurred (e.g., during banking crises), which can:

  • Disrupt index NAV stability

  • Temporarily distort reported fund performance

  • Impact investor confidence

4. Regulatory Scrutiny

As USDC operates under U.S. regulatory oversight, macro-level shifts (e.g., stablecoin laws, capital requirements) may affect its availability, functionality, or global reach.

5. Concentration Risk

Relying on a single stablecoin introduces systemic exposure. Any severe incident involving USDC would directly impact all OLTA products.

Mitigations & Positioning

  • Due Diligence: OLTA continuously monitors Circle’s attestation reports and regulatory developments.

  • Smart Contract Flexibility: Protocol design allows for modularity in accepting other forms of collateral if justified by risk events.

  • Transparent Communication: In case of disruptions, OLTA commits to immediate disclosures and contingency plans for investor protection.

Institutional Rationale

Despite these risks, OLTA prioritizes USDC due to:

  • Proven liquidity and adoption

  • Full-dollar peg structure

  • Regulatory maturity

  • Backing transparency (monthly attestations)

By proactively documenting and preparing for these risks, OLTA reinforces its institutional reliability while building on the most stable digital dollar infrastructure available today.
